College advice for an indecisive teen?

here is the deal:

i am a senior in high school

by the time i graduate i will have an entire years worth of college LER courses out of the way, so i don't have a year of college to figure out what i want to do like everybody else does.

i just can't decide what to major in or what kind of career to aim for. here is what i know:

i get good grades in all subjects

i rock and english and love it

i hate history

i DON';T want to be: a writer, a lawyer, a doctor, a nurse, a teacher, anything that has to do with building stuff or mechanical things, and nothing in music or an arts major

i am creative and smart, i just don't know what i want to do because i am capable of doing a lot and there are too many choices!! yes, i know that makes me seem big headed, but i am really not.

i am very logical and literal.

any help would be extremely appreciated! thank you for answering!!College advice for an indecisive teen?
Because you are creative and smart, being a film director might be right for you. You would be able to use your creativity and your intellect together.

If I could give you any advice, it would be to not feel rushed into deciding what you want to do for the rest of your life. College is about finding yourself. Few people start college knowing exactly what they want to do. I know people that went into college thinking that they knew exactly what they wanted to be, and ended up majoring in something completely different.College advice for an indecisive teen?
Business, maybe? Or maybe something like science research or you could do something like write/produce plays. A lot of people go for journalism, like news reporter stuff. You could write newspaper articles and if you like to get the latest scoop or gossip it's perfect. lol. Good Luck!

Any advice for an aspiring teen actress who wants to make it big similar to what happened with Hannah Montana?

Yooo. I'm just a teenage girl, and I really really want to become an actress. I want to make it big like Miley. I know this business is very tough, but I want to go through it anyway. It's especially hard for me because I live in the DC area. Help please?? Or is there anything I should know about agents, resumes, and/or auditions nearby? I need as much help as possible, and I'm trying to do as much as I can this summer! :DAny advice for an aspiring teen actress who wants to make it big similar to what happened with Hannah Montana?
Have a dad who was already a big country star in his day.

Sorry but that is what happened with Miley.

That is why she got the part as Hannah Montana -- otherwise it would have gone to Lucy who was on American Juniors -- that kids` American Idol -- four years ago.

She made the band with the four other kids and yet she has not come into her own as an actress until now with a role as Alexis Bleidel`s little sister on Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and as I said she was the choice for Hannah until Miley and her dad showed up with an offer Disney couldn`t refuse.

If you want to be famous and you do not have a famous dad then it is going to be local productions and hard work. Many actresses have to wait tables and do other things while they are waiting for their big break even as adults. Ever see Rent?

Those exact characters were not into acting precisely but if you see the documentary on the DVD -- those were the friends that Jonathan Larson wrote about -- writers and actors and musicians and filmmakers who were trying to find their niche in New York.

Hate to tell you this Princess but you do art --and acting is an art -- because you cannot stop -- the passion is that huge. If you start now shining on the local stage then maybe you will be able to get into a performing arts high school like Duke Ellington School of the Arts right there in Washington.

Or go to a public arts magnet school if you can and get into a great performing arts college after that.

I have no idea if Miley can act or not. She can sing okay and maybe her comfort on stage is why she can deliver on TV but quite honestly I do not know if she could carry a movie or a stage play with her acting ability and outside of the Disney culture (as Disney has a lot of experience coddling and coaching kids through the process).

So...I think your ambition is faulty and you will only be disappointed.

However if you really do have a passion for acting work like nothing you have ever worked for before and maybe you can make it to the top one day.Any advice for an aspiring teen actress who wants to make it big similar to what happened with Hannah Montana?
Miley mostly made it that far because her dad started it (don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Miley fan) but if you really want it bad, try to be in any and all local plays and musicals. Then once you have a good resemay, you can start keeping your eyes open for any open auditions for movies. If you are in an event that agents are at and you are good, then you might get discovered and ta-da, you are on your way to stardom. But this will probably take a lot of time, be patient. Oh yeah, and try to get a variety of roles so on your resemay, they know you have the ability to do anything. Good Luck!!!!
You're forgetting something. Her father is an international superstar. HE signed on to do the show before she did. Don't compare yourself to her. You're not even close to being in the same situation. If you want to act, go ahead. But if your goal is to be the next Hannah you shouldn't even try. They already have one, they aren't looking for another.
well this isn't exactly gonna happen over night. You need time. Most likely you won't make it during teen yrs. Adult perhaps? Well just go out for local community plays and test on what you can do. Take singing lessons and do what you can in ur local neighborhood and then once you did look for a talent scout and audition on broadway...make ur way up!!

good luck!
im just like you. I too live in Maryland right near DC and i want to be a singer/acteress. Im just going to camps, lessons and looking around for plays. let me know if you find any and i will do the same!!

Job Advice for a Confused Teen?

This isn't exactly urgent, but I'm 14 and starting to think about where I want to go. Now don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying being a kid, but I am thinking about it.

There are three jobs (all VERY different) that seem interesting to me but I don't know how to go about choosing what is right for me.

The jobs are:

Medicine (doctor which of course requires a lot of commitment)

Acting in sitcoms (which to me sounds like an amazing way to work)

Film Advertising (e.g. trailers, posters)

Has anyone got advice on how to go about working out what I would really love doing? One more bit of info, I am not a drama student which means little to no acting experience so far, but I think I would enjoy acting classes. Any advice would be wonderful as I want to just stop thinking about this so much. Thanks.Job Advice for a Confused Teen?
If you don't decide by the time college rolls around, just start taking general classes at college and you'll figure yourself out in a year or two and go from there.

No need to rush this, it's a HUGE decision, and you need college no matter what these days. Job Advice for a Confused Teen?
how about college?

  • Teen moms, please help, me advice for a pregnant teen?

Ok, i am 17 years old, and in my 1st semester of college.

I was doing actually well for myself i graduated from high school in january and started college 3 days after i graduated high school. When i came back to town i got back together with my boyfriend, that i had left and went to north carolina for 5 months. and before i left he got me pregnant, and my mother made me get an abortion.. something that i did not want, but i had to get because she said she was gonna kick me out if i kept it, and i was in another state that i didnt kno anything about, with no car, no money, and no job.. so i had to go thru with it. Ok and since then i was on birth control, but i stopped taking it because of how it made me feel. we tried and tried and tried to make me not get pregnant, but low and behold i am. I know this is gonna look really bad to my family, and i dont want to tell them. my family is the type that dont help, they make u struggle, and they are not good to go to when u need support.

oKTeen moms, please help, me advice for a pregnant teen?
If your boyfriend is willing to be there for you and your baby, it's within your best interest to (if you haven't already) try to get into an apartment or place of your own as soon as you can manage it. Whether or not you keep your child (meaning, give it up for adoption or keep it yourself), it is going to be very detrimental to your pregnancy and your baby's development to have to deal with such extreme stress during the next months. You need to remove yourself from that situation by whatever means are necessary.

DO keep attending school as long as your body allows you to; when you have your degree, you will be thankful as you can get a good job that will really support your family, and allow your boyfriend the chance to go to college for himself. After your child's birth, you can still try to go part time if you need to, so long as you can work it out where either your boyfriend is home during those times to watch the baby, or a close friend is willing to do so. DO NOT give up your college dreams unless it just gets too difficult to manage both; you will be so thankful in the future! And if you apply for financial aid, that can also help defray your costs as well.

It's important that (eventually) your family ought to know about the baby; but so long as you can get out of their influence, you will be better off making the announcement on your own terms. Let them know this is the path you've chosen; you're a fully grown adult (you'll be 18 by the time your baby is born, I'm sure), and responsible for your own life. If they want to be supportive, they're more than welcome to come into your life and be there for your child. Otherwise, please just respect your wishes and let you be the great mom you want to be.

Good luck; I know this will be tough. But you CAN do it; just don't sacrifice ALL your dreams to make it work! (And whatever you do, don't try to work part time and go to school full time while you have a little infant at home -- I did that, and it was insanely difficult! Take turns with hubby going to college.)Teen moms, please help, me advice for a pregnant teen?
Go talk with your student adviser and see what your campus has to offer in regards to support and such.

And I agree, do not allow your mother or ANYONE else to talk you into having an abortion. Adoption is a wonderful option if you decide that keeping your child isn't an option. There's no shame in putting up your child for adoption, it just shows that you were intelligent enough to realize that you couldn't provide for your child, and rather than allowing them to grow up in a tough home situation, you gave them a better chance at life, and you gave a childless couple joy and happiness.

And as far as the birth control situation, there are many different types out there, you should try to find the one that works for you the best. Not all birth control will cause you to have the same reaction.
It's sad to say but going through college is tough enough. And then to add a newborn to the mix will make you stressed and you won't be able to focus in your studies. So you can either give the baby up for adoption or keep it. If your pressured into getting an abortion by your family than you need to explain to them that you don't want to kill it.
don't let your family talk you into another abortion if your out of the house doing good for yourself don't let them run your life its your body and your baby and if your bf is willing to work 2 jobs to take care of you and his baby then you have it good if you want you can tell them if you don't want you don't have to tell them prove your family wrong you can handle yourself and you are going to take care of your responsibilities
Have the kid and have the father take care of him/her until you get out of college. Or put the child in an orphan's home until you are ready to take care of him/her. I am extremely against abortion.
If your boyfriend is going to help, both of you need to get jobs and move out on your own once you're 18. I go to school full time work full time and i am currently pregnant and plan on working after the baby is born. No it will not be easy but it is NOT impossible. You'll be tired and have a lot of responsibility but with the right mindset, you can do it.

    *edit*

I suggest not taking time off from school. I know this sounds crazy but once you stop, you're not likely to go back. Also, you need to sit down with your family and explain to them your plans. They will probably be upset and concerned but you also have to remember that they are your parents and they have that right to be concerned about your well being. After that, there is nothing you can do or say to make them change their mind. They will come around though. Trust me. When i told my mom, she didn't talk to me for 3 weeks. She was concerned. But now, we have really talked about it and she is fine. Good luck!
my 13 yr old friend was going to get an abortion but still hasn't decided. dont let people tell u its murder. if its for your own good you can have one. try though, prove your mother wrong.
keep it, prove them wrong you can get help from to goverment. have your b.f help you to.
its your body and your baby dont let them control your decision if you wont this baby then you keep it you can get help from the goverment if your family dont stick by you in your dicision then thats there preblem there the ones that are going to loose you over it all, prove to them that you can do this you can always go back to college in a year or 2 you have all the time in world to make something of youeself but you never no this could be your last chance to have a baby and be a mum. its your responsabilty to do the right thing by your child and thats what your mum is doing but that baby (your baby) is growing inside you your mum is trying to protect you so explain to her that this baby is growing inside you and its part of you and its your job as a mum to protect your unborn............like shes doing with you. hope i help and good luck and congrates
    dont do another abortion.

There are many people that would take the baby and love the baby.
Don't let your mother talk you into another abortion. If you are thinking that adoption would be a good option for you there are agencies that will provide you will living expenses and all of your medical care. Good luck to you!

www.itsaboutlove.org is one of these agencies that will help you with everything you need
Dont let your mother talk you into getting another abortion

Save up money for your baby, do they have a school in your area with a daycare so you can still get your education? My best friend just had a baby also and didnt have much money, she got her carseat, stoller, playpen, crib, and clothes and even formula all for free (look up a place for un-wed / teen mothers in your area, they'll help your out!where i live its called the Rose of Sharon) if you have any friends who have babies ask them if you can have clothes that thir child grows out of... all my babies clothes i pass down to my friend to help her, she hasnt had to buy any clothes yet! you can also go to baby consignment shops and get nice things second hand which will save you a bunch...you can e mail me if you wanna know anything else
being a teen and being pregnant will be hard but you know best,if its what you want keep it!!!

    good luck hun x
    Good Luck
keep the baby go to a teen pregnancy clinic they will help you. you can make it on your own and in time your family will except you they can't hate you forever. i doubt they will even hate you if you keep it. good luck
If you live with your boyfriend when you have the baby you could probably take up to 6 weeks off school but even then get them to email you some work so you don't fall far behind

get food stamps and free diapers off the internet

    Good Luck
I feel fo you, it will not be an easy road. I dont have any real advice, I just want to wish you luck and I hope it works out for you.

You have to tell your mom about it though, you wont be able to hide it for long.
get a full time job nannying (one where you can bring your child w/), have your bf get a full time job. try and get jobs where you both work in the mornings. so in the evening both of you are home. that way one of you can go to school in the evenings while the other stays home with the baby.
im going to say this from personal experience, if you absolutely know that your boyfriend is going to be there for you no matter what and you trust him with you life and i mean fully, no kidding yourself, then go through with it. Having a child may seem like it is alot of fun and games, but it is one of the hardest things to go through alone, and when you are barely starting out life there is so much that you can do and go... when you have a child that is going to be put to second, third, fourth decision. The government can help you out in many ways but they are not there for ever and they do not have endless resources to pay irresponsible mothers or even responsible ones. Your in college, and i know that you may think that abortion or adoption is bad option but in the end think of your child and what kind of life you can provide for it. If you cant take care of yourself then it is going to be twice as hard to take care of someone else as well.

    Advice for a cooking teen!!!?

Hi, i just like to have some words to boost me up... I am 17 %26amp; It has just been a while since i discovered my passion in cooking. No one taught me to cook (yeah i know how to cook but i consider myself a ';beginer';), and i just learned it from my self with the help of recipe books and/or cook books that i have in hand. Sometimes i got it right, and sometimes i mess up with it and when that happens, it make me depress... Any inspirational advice?Advice for a cooking teen!!!?
every one has messed up dishes. Even the best of chefs can have a day off. But with cooking as with everything else practice makes perfect. try perfecting some basic skills: learn how to use a good cooking knife, learn how to dose the heat of your furnace or oven depending on the dish,...

taste and taste some more. Learn to discover the flavours and aromas of ingredients and try to combine and experiment. I know that tasting olive oil or pure herbs is not as pleasing for every one but if you don't aquire their individual tastes you'll never be able to encorporate them in a dish of your own.

last but not least enjoy the food you make it'll make you enjoy cooking even more.Advice for a cooking teen!!!?
cooking is my love also, I think the more you try the better you get so just keep doing it have fun and if you mess up oh well at least you tried, then try it again, directions are so simple to follow everyone that can read should know how to cook lol
Nothing to be depressed about, especially if you still are learning. When you do make a bad dish, just tell yourself that it'll be better next time, and remember the thing you did that maybe made it bad. When you make a great meal, pat yourself on the back. :) Good luck!
Good on you! My b/f had to teach himself to cook as a kid too or he and his sis %26amp; bro wouldn't have eaten! He's now been a chef for 9 yrs. But he can still mess up sometimes so don't stress about it, add lotsa garlic or chilli - that makes anything taste good LOL
Don't let messing things up stand in your way.......mistakes are the #1 lessons for learning! My mom always told me a great cook learns from her mistakes! Have fun doing what you like to do and cook, cook, cook!
It happens to everyone! If you ever get a chance, look at the first cooking show, The French Chef with Julia Child. She messed up all the time! In fact, she gave a lot of good tips on how to fix things.

As long as you are learning and having fun, hold your head up because you have the courage to try new things and that's a lot.
You sound like you have a passion, which is great.

Cooking is one big experiment, that you can play around with, and vary until you have perfected it.

I use cookery books, but I never follow them to the letter.

Sometimes it's great, others it's not.

    Practice makes perfect.

The internet will provide some great recipes and even demonstrations. Watch cookery programmes on the telly, and even consider taking a course.

Just keep a positive attitude, don't get depressed about the odd failure, and keep trying.

I wish you the best of success for the future.
Nothing inspirational but keep on going the way you are this is how most good cooks and some chefs started. I know this is disappointing but don't be depressed, it happens to us all.
don't be depressed, i'm married and i still learn

it's really great that you cook, by the time you'll get married you'll be really experienced

Maybe you could attend some cooking lessons, it's really fun

    go for it ...
I am 15 i LOVE cooking when you cook you must have passion which you seem to have now you also have to have a sense of adventure try something new never be afraid to ask for advise if you need it ask it may just be worth the while. you must have a sense of flavor. example when you think chocolate and strawberry's you think it is good because the sweetness of the flavors mach now chocolate is special because you may use if in many recipes. My FINAL word of advise is that you have to try try try don't be sad if you mess up ask what certain ingredient's are taste them ALWAYS taste while you are cooking at the different stages to see the flavor developing as it comes along.

ps if you ever need help or advise email me at 007agentcomplex@gmail.com
In cooking I find it is important to work on your knife handling,(cutting). The faster you can cut, and the more precise you are, the better you are. Keeping your kitchen clean is very important. Knowing a variety of ingredients is very good in the kitchen, broaden your horizon.
Messing it up as you say is gonna happen, especially with new recipes or procedures. even after culinary school and working for years in kitchens it happens to the best of us. Sometimes a chef will share his recipe, but the procudure remains a mystery to all who have not seen him prepare the dish, How ever at 17 and teaching your self you've moved farther along than most people in the world. If every could cook My handle may be masreplumber or master car parker or something, its evident you have the will and drive to succeed so follow your heart, Cooking is one of the hardest things you will ever love doing but once its in your system it never leaves. Stick with it and if you decide to turn pro be ready for and exciting life. A career in which your abilities and talents will be challenged every day , and for some od us that is what drives us to perfection, Even a failure at times shoulkd serve to remind you there is much to learn, learn from it and move on, it happens, evn to me even now . Welcome to the world of Kitchens.
Honey, your 17, the mere fact that your even attempting to cook should be commendable. Hat's off to you!!! You should be proud of yourself. I'm a lot older than you and I still get it wrong on occasions. ( I can usually tell by the wrinkled up noses from my kids) That's a fact of life. That's how you learn. If I got depressed every time I got it wrong, I'd be on Prozac. I learn from my mistakes and I move on. Stick with the basics at first and then gradually try something else. What I mean is don't start yourself off with Beef Wellingtons, Start small, end big. Trust your palette and go with your instincts. Good luck you future Chef.
